Gyrating to the 'Rhythm and Booze'

Krista Henry, Staff Reporter

Left: This feathery beauty must have turned many heads at the party. Right: It was an all-white affair for most women.

For persons with excess energy after Champs last Saturday, Rhythm and Booze was the place to be, as they took to the dance floor of The Pantry in New Kingston on Saturday night.

A gold and white Bollywood themed party, some women came out in skimpy white dresses, while most of the males came out sporting their school colours. One or two females, however, took the theme further, dressing in Indian-style wraps and stood out in the crowd.

Full swing

When THE STAR arrived at the venue after midnight, there was a long line of persons waiting to enter. Inside, the party was already in full swing. A few persons stood around lyming, while the majority danced up a storm to old favourites like Crazy Hype and Willie Bounce. Code Red and Darkcide kept the vibe going strong throughout the night with a constant selection of hit songs.

Songs from Vybz Kartel and Mavado were especially popular, with some persons loudly proclaiming themselves 'Gaza' or 'Gully.'

Mini-daggerin' segment

While the venue wasn't packed to capacity, patrons enjoyed the numerous bars available, as the vibe only got better. When the mini-daggerin' segment began, women were hoisted in the air, some bent over and in other cases, the men lay on the floor with the women on top as they got wild.

When Code Red hit the wheels of steel after Darkcide, they switched the vibe briefly, playing the theme song from SpongeBob SquarePants and persons sang along. The selectors later changed to a bit of swing and then cultural tunes as they brought a different musical style to the party.

As the night progressed and the alcohol began to take effect, one male did a brief strip show for his female companions, taking off his shirt and spinning it around in the air. After 4 a.m., persons were still having a good time, with few patrons leaving. When THE STAR left shortly after, it was obvious that persons enjoyed the first Rhythm and Booze party for the year.

The energy level on the dancefloor was high all night!

This couple appeared to have either had too much to drink or they were simply winding down from all that dancing.
