Mayor of Portmore, Keith Hinds, said that his municipality will fully embrace sports as a tool for positive growth, and that several of the playing fields throughout the St Catherine community will be upgraded.
Hinds was the guest speaker at the annual general meeting of the Ken's Wildflower Sports Club in Portmore on Sunday.
He told the audience that clubs in sections of Portmore needed to be revitalised. "There is a way forward if we used sports as a vehicle of change and even in the Hellshire area there is a playing field that we are looking at, plus the Ken's Sports Club, for total development," he said.
The mayor used the occasion to congratulate Paul Crooks who was elected president. He succeeded Noel Brady, who is now vice- president and treasurer Rondel Gibson was returned to the executive.
In an interview with THE PORTMORE STAR, the newly elected president said the aim is to take the club to an international standard. "The aim is to do further work on the facility so that when there are activities there, everything is under one covering.
Although funding is hard to come by, we at the club will not stop trying."
