'COME TALK WITH US'

Superintendent Marlon Nesbeth, head of the St Catherine South Police Division based in Portmore, is requesting more information from residents in order to solve crime.

"We are getting some information from residents but not at as much as we would like," Supt Nesbeth said in a recent interview with THE PORTMORE STAR. He reassured the residents that they are free to talk to the police as their information is kept with the highest level of confidentiality.

Nesbeth said that they are concerned with the level of crime in Naggo Head, Newland, Waterford and sections of Old Harbour. "These areas are hot spots in our division and we are working closely with residents to keep the crime rate down," he said.

Meanwhile, the Portmore police have charged two men in connection with the murder of Naggo Head resident Ian McMorris, 46, who was shot dead in the community last month.

They are Rohan 'Stabba Dog' McMasters, 27, labourer of Luke Lane and Swallowfield Road in Kingston, and Mickel Cushnie, 26, of a King Street address in Kingston. The men are to appear in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court next week on a charge of murder. A witness positively identified them on Wednesday.

Police say McMasters is a former member of the once-notorious Joel Andem-led Gideon Warriors gang. He is a co-accused with Andem for the murder of Sylvia Edwards. He is on bail in that matter.

Police reported that about 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, January 28, three men were standing at a shop in Naggo Head when two men rode up on a motorcycle. The men alighted from the cycle and asked for 'Mickey', then immediately opened fire on the men.

All three men were hit, but McMorris died on the spot. The two injured men, ages 42 and 48, were rushed to hospital.
