Bajan cricket team manager, Livy Coppin, is hoping that the team's rich early round form with the bat is a trend that will continue when it tackles leaders Jamaica in the fourth round of the WICB Four-day championship, which bowls off at the Kensington cricket ground tomorrow.
"It is encouraging to see our batting come on. It is an area where we have struggled in recent years," Coppin, manager of the Barbados team, told STAR Sports following the arrival of the 17-member squad at the Norman Manley International Airport yesterday.
"The bowling has always been fairly strong, but with good batting in support of it, we are looking to do fairly well," he added.
Currently in second place on 27 points, Barbados racked up huge totals against both the Windward and Leeward islands, posting a daunting first-innings score of 395 against the latter.
Be mindful
Title holders Jamaica, who lead the standings with 30 points, will also be aware of the fact that the Barbadians have managed to get the better of their matchups in the last two seasons.
"These are currently the two top teams. It's always a good matchup when they meet, so we are expecting a very close and competitive game," Coppin said.
"Our aim is come out with a positive result. This is a very important game for us and we are definitely looking for a win," he added.
Jamaica have so far registered outright victories over the Leewards and Combined Colleges and Campuses, and took first-innings points in a draw against Trinidad and Tobago.
