Ardenne High School yesterday made their way to the second round of TVJ's Schools' challenge quiz competition after an easy win over Ewarton High School.

Ewarton struggled to gain a point in the first section, but eventually did so near to the end. They did not add to this for the remainder of the section. Ardenne on the other hand, though not firing like they usually did, performed much better and ended the section on eight points.

Struggled to earn points

Section two of the match brought much the same. Again Ewarton struggled to earn points. They gained only five in this section. Ardenne did not impress in this round, but did enough to stay on top. At the end of this section, they stood on 23 points, to Ewarton's 6.

The third section of the match was far from exciting. Ardenne buzzed in a few times and Ewarton only attempted two questions. As soon as they gained two points from a question, they immediately lost them. Ardenne High tried to answer a good number of questions. In most cases, they were successful, but they also got two questions incorrect. The final scores were Ardenne 27, Ewarton 6.

Hard work

Aaron Newell, coach of the Ewarton team told THE STAR, " I must commend the students for putting in the effort and the time. The score line was not a reflection of the hard work and effort put in over the past couple of months. But my team panicked and they surrendered in the buzzer section. They passed a lot of questions they knew and team work was lacking.

The Reverend Glen Archer, coach of the Ardenne team, thanked God for the victory and told THE STAR, " An ugly win is better than a pretty defeat. We're a young team and we're in the stages of rebuilding. When you're starting over , it's always a challenge." He added that many would see the team's performance as a sign that they will not go far, but suggested that things could work out otherwise.
