TNT explodes in the dancehall

Although known individually on the dancehall scene, deejays Timberlee, Natalie Storm and Tifa pack an extra punch vibing together as TNT.

With each deejay having a distinct style - Natalie being the punk-rock girl, Timberlee being the 'girly girl' and Tifa, the businesswoman/ tomboy - combined, TNT is showing the business that female artistes can get along.

With one song coming out on Chimney Records soon and Natalie Storm and Tifa's Talk of the Town making waves, as well as a mix tape entitled The Federation Presents TNT: Three the Hard Way, people are beginning to listen to TNT.

Ward 21 camp

Hailing out of the Ward 21 camp, Timberlee, Tifa and Natalie Storm all have growing individual careers but come together for shows, songs and appearances as the trio, TNT.

When the STAR spoke to Tifa, she explained how they got together. "Timberlee was the first girl in Ward 21 but you know she was away at school. I joined Ward 21 after a formal audition for the camp. I linked with Natalie through Dexter Pottinger.

She was on the 'Gal Dem Sittin' rhythm and we all just clicked from there. Since then, we just link together and go promoting together."

Mix tape

It wasn't until last year, however, that TNT was formed, when the Federation Sound made a mix tape with the three women. Tifa said, "We were on most of the same rhythms together anyway, so it was easier to compile sets together and work together. The mix tape was where the concept really began and it did extremely well. We had a launch for it in New York, which got rave reviews."

While they are making songs individually, together, TNT has a lot more opportunities, with possible endorsement deals in the works, a US tour coming up in April, a show in Belize this month and plans for a TNT album.

The girls of TNT help to dispel the image in the dancehall that female artistes can't get along. Sharing a close bond, TNT is looking to bring female deejays to the forefront.

"Its good for people to see three girls doing our own thing, that we can get along, which was the purpose of the whole 'Gal Dem Sittin' rhythm. There are a lot more things in the making for TNT and us as singles (individual performers) as well," Tifa said.
