A man accused of assaulting a woman after she refused his sexual advances was again refused bail when his matter was mentioned in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.
Charged with assaulting a woman is Damion Osbourne, 25, of an East Road, Kingston 12, address.
Refused advance
The court was told that on December 20 the complainant went to a shop in the community where she was approached by the accused. It is alleged that he held on to her and made sexual demands. When she refused, he choked her and hit her in the face, causing bruising and swelling.
The court was further told by the investigating officer that since the accused's detention, the complainant had received threats from his friends. It was also alleged that the accused himself had sent threats from behind bars. It was revealed that Osbourne was charged with illegal possession of ammunition in another matter.
An attorney representing the accused told the court that the allegations had been concocted by the arresting officer. He told the court that his client was under the impression that the complainant and the arresting officer were related in some way. The attorney also told the court that Osbourne was arrested when he reported to the police as stipulated in his bail conditions. This allegation was, however, denied by the investigating officer who said the accused was detained during a police patrol in his community.
The lawyer asked for bail, telling the court that Osbourne was not a flight risk. To this, Senior Resident Magistrate Glen Brown responded: "When you say you're a rude boy or a bad man, rude boys don't get bail."
Much to the amusement of those in court, the lawyer asked: "Look at his face, Your Honour, does this look like the face of a bad man?"
The matter is to be mentioned again on February 3.
