FIX-IT - Oakland Crescent now fixed

A section of Oakland Crescent in St Andrew that needed urgent fixing. The road has since been repaired - Norman Grindley

AS PART of our mission to be the People Paper, THE WEEKEND STAR has been highlighting problem areas across the island. Our Reporter Carolyn Johnson, along with photographer Norman Grindley, will focus on a particular area until the problem is fixed. We will then have a rough idea of how long the relevant authorities take to deal with some of the problems affecting our country.

We are eternally grateful and now believe, after seeing proof, that miracles still happen. After what seemed like an eternity and we confess, we had given up hope, Oakland Crescent has been repaired.

Road trenches

Do you remember Oakland Crescent? The rubble road off Waltham Park Road, St Andrew, had been severely damaged by water. The road was so bad, there were trenches on either side where water had carved its own route. In the middle, the asphalt was barely there and dotted with potholes. In fact, in places, there was no road, just rubble, for long stretches of the avenue. According to residents of the area, the road got this way because of Hurricane Ivan in 2004. To make matters worse, the road was scheduled to be repaired in 2007 but Hurricane Dean threw a monkey wrench into the plans.

However, the prayers of residents have now been answered and they now have a road.
