The girls from Hampton High School in St Elizabeth yesterday distanced themselves from Dunoon Park Technical High School by a clear 16 points when the teams met in their Schools' Challenge Quiz match at Television Jamaica's studio.
While the match could have easily been either team's game leading up to the buzzer section, it was in this final segment of the duel that Hampton seized the victory. The team ended on a final score of 21 while its opponent, which lost two points in the buzzer section, ended on five points. The final score was 21-5.
Not best performance
Natasha Stephenson, captain of the winning team, told The Star that although the school emerged victorious, it was not the team's best performance.
"We could have done better but we are quite happy with the outcome," she said.
Francis Blythe, one of Hampton High's coaches, shared the captain's sentiment, saying that while the victory is welcome, the team could have done far better.
Coach of Dunoon Technical, Aldith Douglas, believed the match should have easily went in favour of her team. "They know the answers but I know the score does not reflect that. This was a match for them to win," she told The Star.
"Of all the matches we've ever lost, this one pains the most. There was a lack of team effort."
