The second season of 'Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall' will return to TVJ on Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 9 p.m.
TV land will once again be transformed, as the auditions from the five locations, Montego Bay, May Pen, Portmore, Ocho Rios and Kingston, will showcase contestants soliciting the public's vote and hoping to be crowned top princes and princesses from each audition.
Sanjay, one of the show's producers, outlined the plans for the competition: "It's not only the $1 million that each winner will get, we will be having the addition of a backstage feature, which will explore behind the scenes of what really takes place at the live shows."
The producer also highlighted that more dancers would be featured this year, unlike last season when only one group was used: "We are trying to introduce a different group each week."
Guest judges
On the matter of the guest judges, Sanjay explained: "Last year we went mostly for artistes, this time around we will be using other credible persons within the industry as well."
'Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall' is slated to kick off on TVJ on Saturday January 17 with the contestants from Montego Bay, where both males and females delivered incredible performances. It is expected that the viewers will have a difficult time deciding who will go on to the finals.
Sanjay commented on the success of the auditions: "The turnout for the auditions was great; we had females turning out who were
equally as good as their male counterparts. It's a bit early to say we see anyone in particular who will take a title, because it really depends on the voting pattern of the public as to who goes and who stays."
Audition
Next week Saturday, January 24, the May Pen auditions will be broadcast followed by Portmore (Jan 31), Ocho Rios (Feb 7) and Kingston (Feb 14).
Audition shows will end broadcast on Saturday, February 14, and a re-cap of the audition shows as well as the Kingston result show will air on February 21. The highly anticipated live shows begin on Saturday, February 28, 2009.
The second season of 'Magnum Kings and Queens of Dancehall' promises to be better and 'badda' than the previous, not only will the contestants get to showcase their talent to Jamaica, but Jamaica will get the chance to decide who will ultimately be crowned the 2009 Magnum King and Queen of Dancehall and walk away with over $1 million dollars in cash and prizes each.
