Woman killed, grandchild injured by motor car

A woman was killed and her 11-month-old granddaughter thrown from her arms and injured when they were hit by a vehicle in Duhaney Pen, St Thomas, last Friday morning.

The dead woman has been identified as 52-year-old Orinthia Allen, unemployed and of a Duhaney Pen address in the parish.

Crossing the road

THE STAR was told that early Friday morning, Allen and her granddaughter were in the process of crossing the road when they were hit by a car that was heading towards Yallahs. The child was thrown from her arms into bushes and Allen fell on to an embankment. She was taken to the Princess Margaret Hospital where she died. Her granddaughter has been admitted in stable condition.

The driver of the car, Dwight Pusey, a 36-year-old doctor, was arrested and taken before the court on the day of the incident. He was offered $1.5m bail. He is to return to court on February 18.
