Herbert Morrison Technical High beat St Ann-based Brown's Town Community College to advance to the first round of Television Jamaica's Schools' Challenge Quiz yesterday.
In a match that was anyone's game until the final section, Herbert Morrison managed to stave off the competition from Brown's Town and secured its place in the next round.
Exciting buzzer section
Both teams were evenly poised during the first two sections, but it was the 'exciting buzzer section' when Herbert Morrison showed its class and amassed a number of points and pulled away from its opponent. The final scores were 33-20.
Captain of the winning team, Randy Russell, told THE STAR after the match, " I think we played well. The first and second sections were up for grabs, but we played well in the buzzer section. Last year and the year before, the buzzer was our downfall, so we really worked on that.
We will have to work on the minutes section and the first section. We really plan to make an impact this year, so we are working for it."
Marco Hines, coach of the team from Brown's Town Community College, said of his team's performance: "It was a well-fought match. However, my team was a bit slow on the buzzer and Herbert Morrison was faster and got a lot of points in the final section."
