Birthday girl Macka Diamond cuts the 'money cake' with Black-er. - Winston Sill photos
At 12:40 a.m., the El Rancho Lawn where Macka Diamond's birthday ball was being held did not have many patrons. Although the start to this party looked shaky in terms of patrons, the vibes looked promising.
As expected, approximately 2 a.m., patrons started to stream into the venue located at Dunbeholden, Portmore, by the dozens. Some men were dressed in suits while others sported the normal jeans and T-shirts.
The attire of the females ranged from glittering ball gowns to the casual look of short shorts or jeans pants.
Black Shadow sound system did a good job of playing classic R&B and hip-hop tracks in the early segment before making way for Silent River International.
By this time songs like Fassy ... and Beenie Man's God Inna Mi Heart had the growing crowd in a frenzy. The vibe was quickly changed to soul songs like Love Me Please, Guilty by Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb and Rock Me Tonight by Freddie Jackson.
'Dollar-sign' cake
The turntables were handed over to Richie Feelings who had the pleasure of introducing the lady of the moment as she arrived wearing an orange and silver outfit. Macka Diamond was surely feeling happy as she smiled and walked on the red carpet all the way to her birthday booth. She thanked all her fans for supporting her after she finished cutting her 'dollar-sign' cake with friend Black-er.
Artistes like Lady G, Queen Paula, Black-er, Kiprich, D'Angel and many others came out to support the 'Money O' queen. They also gave toasts to the big woman, congratulating her on reaching this far in the business.
Richie Feelings continued to keep the crowd alive with tracks like Killing Me Softly, Return of the Mac, Just In Case and Fantasia's When I See You. A vibe was definitely in the place when Richie Feelings changed the vibe and played songs like Serani and Bugle's Doh Overcome and I'm So Blessed by Mavado, Mi Nuh Fren Fish by Bounty Killer and Kartel's Kill Dem All and Done.
The party intensified as some patrons started to shout "Gaza we say, no appliance round here". Others shouted, "Gully side forever, we have gully goddesses and gods, no jerk men."
This word-throwing was being done in good spirits as the patrons railed for both Vybz Kartel and Mavado songs.
The daggering segment followed shortly with songs like Beenie Man's Wine Gal and Bragga's Dagga Dat. Also, in this segment, what came as a surprise was an award given by the LA Lewis led Jamaica Youth for Justice to the queen of the ball for her exemplary work in entertainment.
'Daggering' time
As the clock struck 5 a.m, it was very evident that it was 'daggering' time. As Code Red took to the turntables, they carried on the daggering vibes with RDX's Bend Over track which was pulled up many times.
The party continued on that note for a while as Tony Matterhorn took to the turntables as the selector to close the show. However, during this time, what should have been the end to a great party, for some patrons, turned out to be a nightmare as their cars were either stolen or tampered with.
One patron who was a victim of the theft lashed out saying, "How so much police deh ya and none nuh deh outside watching the car them. I have to give a report to the STAR Monday morning, this is slackness", she said.
Although marred by this incident at 6:55 a.m when The STAR team was leaving the venue patrons were still partying and very happy to see members of the Alliance who had just rolled in.
There are too many things striking about this woman to list them all.
