A 'Beauty and the Beast' buss

In this weekly Muss Buss Caan Buss song review feature, three musical minds will analyse each song and will grade it on vocal ability, lyrics, musical arrangement and appeal. Songs that make the grade will be dubbed 'Mus Buss', while songs that flop twill be dumped in the 'Caan Buss' bin.

The three reviewers welcome feedback from the artistes and the public about the column. Send your comments to bussdem@hotmail.com or mail in your songs to 'Muss Buss' at the Gleaner Company, 7 North Street, Kingston. This week the muss buss/caan buss team will be reviewing TJ Records Beauty and the Beast rhythm. The reviewers listened to Laden's Anytime, Serani's We Grow and Wayne Wonder's Dance on the Beautyriddim and Aidonia's Badman A Step, Blak Ryno's Shot A Buss and Bugle's Hypocrite Friend on the Beast riddim.

Witch: "This is basically a double riddim, same beat but slightly different, with the Beauty being a 'clean/good' version and the Beast the raw side."

Queen: "Mi like di Beauty riddim, di vibe at di beginning has a seductive feel to it. "

Witch: "Yeah, the Laden on it is like an instant hit, mi just love it right off di bat."

Queen: "Yeah him sound in parts like Wayne Marshall."

Lady Boo: "Wah mi like bout it so far is dat fact dat yuh hear different sounds but at di same time di riddim kinda vary, as yuh seh di first part have di kinda seductive feel to it, as it goes it just get more intense."

Queen: "Yeah, there's a really good build up, di riddim although its not di traditional roots rock, it still gives yuh a mellow nice, warm feeling. Mi like dat Serani song, mi just like di riddim so mi will just like di songs on it."

Witch: "The Wayne Wonder song sound different, it kinda sounds out of space-ish. And is a looong time we nuh here from him, fi get him on a riddim."

Queen: "Yeah fi real. Unnu notice di song dem on di riddim all have a seductive theme to it, even though there different songs there are different element."

Lady Boo: "Mi actually prefer di Wayne Wonder than di rest of them, his voice just sound really smooth and clear and refreshing caw some of di other artistes we hear dem everyday."

Witch: "Alrite dis is di Beast riddim, can yuh hear di difference? Dis sound more military kinda for the men."

Queen: "Dis remind of di 'Military riddim', yuh hear some of di Beauty in dis but dem mix in di 'Military' part."

Lady Boo: "Mi like how fi di Beast part of it it sound kinda graphic, like a horror movie, but mi have a problem wid di Aidonia's song, di clarity is poor afta so many years in di music. Di only ting mi can understand is di chorus and even dat mi have a problem wid."

Witch: "Dat has always been Aidonia problem, but di Ryno sounds like a strong hit in di dance, mi can see people a give beer forwards."

Queen: "Him voice nuh sound like him know anyting bout wha him a sing bout, he's too little, but we know otherwise. Di song have potential."

Lady Boo: "Him really ride di riddim, yuh hear him and di riddim, none nah prevent yuh from hear di other."

Queen: "Every song Bugle have about somebody bad mind him, but yuh haffi give him him props he does it creatively, none of his bad mind songs sound alike except for di theme. Mi love di Beauty side of it more, but both sides have potential. it gives everybody in dancehall something to enjoy. Mi woulda give it a buss, mi tink it a go places."

Lady Boo: "Mi like di concept of di 'Beauty and di Beast', mi kno seh di Mavado and Kartel are more than sure fi buss, but Wayne Wonder I guess caw people nuh hear from him from so long dem will like it. Di Laden and Chino, Ryno can buss it up."

Witch: "I agree, dis riddim and songs a go buss throughout Christmas and beyond."
