Spanish Town
A man who is charged with the death of his church sister was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.
George Scott, who was charged on August 8 for the February 13 killing of Marlene Greenland who was blud-geoned to death, appeared before RM Dunbar-Green.
The allegations were read out by the investigating officer who told the court that Scott was close to the deceased and on the day in question, he allegedly used a piece of wood-like weapon to hit the complainant to death. It was also revealed that Scott was picked up a day after but was released after the intervention of his attorney, Leslie Campbell.
In applying for bail, Campbell told the court that there are inconsistencies in the Crown's case and the evidence so far points clearly to a direction of circumstantial evidence and nothing else has been established that would have given motive to this.
Having heard the application, RM Dunbar-Green granted Scott bail on condition that he reports to the police and surrender his travel documents. He will return to court on September 25.
