Three dead in Kitson Town accident

Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

Spanish Town

A pastor, a mother and her four-year-old child were killed in a motor vehicle accident on the Kitson Town main road in St Catherine yesterday.

Dead are Pastor Astor Green, Marcia Francis and her daughter Noella.

Police say about 10:30 a.m. Marcia and her child were passengers in a Toyota Hiace bus driven by Green. The vehicle collided with a trailer, being driven by Richard Spencer, heading in the opposite direction.

Police say the infant and the pastor were killed on the spot. The mother was, however, taken to hospital where she died. Police say the trailer driver fled the scene but was caught by residents, beaten, stabbed and handed over to the police.

Hundreds of persons converged to look at the mangled remain of the bus. Many, including a policeman, wept openly upon viewing Noella's body.

"It is really sad man, she was on her way to get the medical for Noella to go back to school. In fact, it was yesterday (Wednesday) that she should go, but was told that she should come today and was on her way to Point Hill when this incident occurred," said Natasha Smith, Marcia's sister.

Green's friend, Simeon Guscott, said the pastor, who works in the Point Hill area, got a call from the bus park in Spanish Town and rushed to Johnson Pen to pick up the child and her mother.

"The man was at the bus park, man, and they call him, him drive out, say that he is gonna pick up the people them and look, a just him body we looking at, it really bad," he said.

Residents said the spot is one that have claimed the lives of several people before.
