Accused says car was grandma's

A man, who reportedly stole a car that was parked at the complainant's home, told the court that the car had been given to him by his grandmother.

The court was told that on March 8, the complainant parked his motor car along Knightsdale Drive. The following day, he discovered the car missing and made a report to the police at about 7 a.m.

The car was intercepted along Red Hills Road at about 3 p.m. that day and was being driven by the accused, Richard McNeil. When he appeared before Resident Magistrate Glen Brown, McNeil said the car belonged to his grandmother, who was "about 78 or 79 years old".

The case is to be mentioned again on March 17. McNeil was ordered to give his fingerprints to the police.
