THE EDITOR, Sir:
We write in response to an article published in THE STAR dated Tuesday, December 18, 2007, under the heading, 'Bisexual rapist gets 32 years.' The article further stated that the man sentenced was alleged to be driving a Jamaica Union of Travellers Association (JUTA Tours) bus.
However, JUTA Tours directors want to make it absolutely clear that, based on our investigations the driver, Obrien Lindo is neither a JUTA member nor JUTA driver. Our investigations proved that he was a driver of another transport company.
We want our clients and the public to know that all JUTA members and drivers have to meet a certain criterion, that of the highest standard, before becoming a member or driver. They must present a clean police record, recommendation letter from a J.P, Minister of Religion or Superin-tendent of Police, and they must be trained and certified by the Tourism Product Development Company.
We hope this unfortunate allegation will not damage the trust and confidence the public have in JUTA for over 35 years.
As an organisation, we will continue to serve and protect our valued customers.
I am etc.,
Alvin Brown
