THE EDITOR, Sir:
Murder has become for many of us a routine happening in Jamaica, a way of life. however, I am very sure that for many of us there are some murders that we just can't seem to forget.
One such was that of Janell Whyte and Talwo McKenzie, two very young people who were robbed of their lives by people whom I shudder to think even existed, or moreso to have been a part of the human race.
What I sincerely believe that makes this a murder so foul is the depravity and the utter disregard and failure to recognise the goodness and the innocence of these two beautiful people who, having drank of the milk of human kindness, proceeded to one of the most dangerous communities in Jamaica to render medical assistance and care to two so-called people with whom they were involved in an accident the day before.
They were held and offered up for a ransom of US$100,000, and when this was not forthcoming they were taken to a small community in the environs of Stony Hill and brutally murdered.
I understand that a relative of one of the victims was so traumatised by the event her cancer, which had gone into remission, suddenly became active again.
Frankly speaking, I have lost all faith in Jamaica and Jamaicans. I see this place and its inhabitants as one of the worst places on earth, because I just cannot seem able to forget the murder of Janell Whyte and Talwo McKenzie.
