Four guns were seized in separate incidents across the island and one person arrested in connection with one of the seizures on Monday.
Steven Paige, 22, of Back-land, Central Village was arrested and charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition following the seizure of a Smith and Wesson revolver.
Police reports are that between 11 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. an operation was carried out in Central Village. The security team was on Little Lane when they saw a group of men. When the officers approached, the men pulled guns and opened fire at them. The fire was returned and the men ran leaving behind a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver. Paige later turned up at hospital suffering from gunshot wounds. He was identified by the police as one of the men who fired at them and was arrested and charged.
The Mountain View police also made a seizure during a search. Police reports are that at 12:00 noon, a joint police military operation was carried out in the Mountain View community. During the exercise at Bygrave Avenue, a residence was searched and a Remington shotgun serial number N92700K with five 12 gauge rounds were found. No one was arrested in connection with that seizure.
The Sandy Bay police in Hanover also seized two hand-made guns at Nelson Street in the parish. The Constabulary Communications Network liaison officer for the parish reported that at 11:00 a.m., an operation was carried out in the Sandy Bay community. Following an extensive search the weapons were found behind a wall at Nelson Street.
