Holmwood Technical's coach Maurice Wilson has hinted he may not have his best team in the Western Union-sponsored 4x800m at tomorrow's Gibson Relays.
The Christiana-based Holmwood are strong favourites for the girls' under-19 sprint, 4x400m open and 4x800m open relays, all Championship events, but Wilson said he would not be overworking his troops.
Bobby-Gaye Wilkins is a crucial member of the 4x400m and 4x800m teams. Schillonie Calvert and Anastasia Le-Roy are important members of the 4x400m and 4x100m teams but Wilson said one of these two sprinters will not run the 4x400m.
He said victory would depend on the team he uses in the 4x800m.
"We have the 4x400m, I would want to put a good 4x400m team together," he added while hinting he would prefer to win the 4x400m.
"I am not asking them to go out and break a record, whatever the result is, I will take it," he added.
He identified Edwin Allen as strong contenders in this event.
"They (Edwin Allen) have a very good coach and anything is possible," said Wilson.
Holmwood ran 4:50.77 to win at Western Relays, but as the coach indicated, the winning quartet of Wilkins, Vanessa Boyd, Keno Heaven and Susan Hall could be changed.
Edwin Allen, who finished second in 8:58.11 will, according to coach Michael Dyke, be looking for an improvement.
He admitted that Holmwood will be hard to beat.
"They are the defending champions and they retained almost everybody with the exception of Sonita Sutherland. But they have a good replacement in Heaven," he added.
Edwin Allen will chose from Nikita Tracey, Andrea Sutherland, Trudy-Ann Williams, Marvia Lewin, and Nadisha Page.
