A prisoner died from unknown causes on Wed-nesday, at the May Pen police station lock-up, in Clarendon.
Dead is Fabian Walters, who is said to be in his mid-30s. Reports from Constabulary Communications Network liaison officer for the parish, Constable Camay Watson, are that at about 5:15 a.m., Walters fell ill and was taken to the May Pen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Walters was detained on February 15, after an altercation with his family, in which he reportedly threw stones and damaged win-dows and sections of a house. He was subsequently beaten by his own family members, and turned over to the police. The police took him to the hospital, where he received medical treatment. He was later charged with malicious destruction of property.
Walters was brought before the court on Monday where a judge ordered that he be evaluated by a psychiatrist, and be re-manded.
The cause of death of the prisoner, will be determined at a later date, when a post- mortem is completed.
