There are still a few more days to go before the big '07, but designer of the NeahLis clothing line, Lisa McIntosh, is already on to new things.
She says she recently went to London to showcase some of her designs.
"I went to London on a trip, this time I didn't go on Kulture2Couture show ... I just went this time and viewed the venue and things like that," she said, speaking of the fashion show Saint International to which a few Jamaican designers were invited to by the Mayor of London last year.
Getting exposure
She continued: "I was booked for two shows - the Afro hairstyle Awards and I was booked for another show in the Docklands. I didn't end up staying for the (hairstyle awards) because I had to end up coming back home. My management booked me for the shows. The show was all right because the exposure was good."
Another project of McIntosh that will also be getting some exposure soon, is her maternity line.
"It's going excellent. I used D'Angel as one of my first persons that I did the maternity line for. I'm not doing a whole big line dedicated to maternity wear, but it's more personalised and custom-made clothes.
She said she decided to start the line after getting what she considered sage advice from someone in the fashion industry.
"This year, when we did the Saint Fashion Week, some people from the Parsons School of Fashion came down and one of the professors suggested that I do a maternity line because the kind of style could fit for the maternity and the normal person. So, even after the baby is born, the person can still wear the clothes.
Apart from doing shows and expanding her line, McIntosh will also be stitching her way to designing school in the new year. "I will be starting designing school in London next year. I don't want people to think that I will be deserting my country, it's not like that. Most of my work is going to done online, but for some exams, I'm going to have to go there to sit them."
