Accused 'cop shooters' remanded

by Rasbert Turner, STAr Writer

st. catherine

Two men, who the police claimed were among persons who shot at them on November 17, were remanded in custody when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday.

The men, Courtney 'Terror Black' Vassell, otherwise called Damion Henry, and Sean Thomas, both of Duncan's Pen, St. Catherine, are charged with shooting with intent and illegal possession of a firearm.

Invaded house

According to investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Dennis Arthurs of the Spanish Town CIB, about 10:00 on the night in question, Thomas and Vassell were said to be the men who invaded a house in the area and threatened a female.

The police allegedly went into the area during which time shots were fired at them. Vassell was said to be among the group who fired shots at the lawmen and ran away leaving a Desert Eagle handgun, a sword and a multi-channel radio. Thomas was later pointed out as being among the group of men.

When the case was mentioned, both men denied the allegations. The attorney at-law representing Thomas told the court that he was gainfully employed and could be located if the police wants him. The judge, however, denied bail.

In the case of Vassell, the court also learnt that he had been wanted since January 1, 2004, in another case, after he engaged a police party in a shoot-out along with another man who was shot and injured by the police. A warrant had been out for his arrest. Both men are slated to appear in the Gun Court on December 15.
