The Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court was left in shock on Tuesday, after a male complainant in an assault case told the court he and his male attacker had been in a relationship.
The two men appeared in court on December 5, and investigating officer, Neleta Powell-Wilson,
outlined to the court that on October 14, the complainant, who was living with the accused, Rayon Campbell, for three years, left the house after they had a disagreement.
It is reported that the complainant went back to get some of his belongings when an argument developed, and hot water was thrown on the complainant's back, causing extensive burns. The accused was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.
On Tuesday in court, when Resident Magistrate Lorna Errar Gayle enquired about the type of relationship the men shared, Powell-Wilson told her it was more than a social one. The
complainant then told the court that the accused used to take care of him. However, he realised that things were not 'going anywhere' and that was why he ended the relationship.
Campbell pleaded guilty to the assault charge and his lawyer, Dale Staple, made a successful bail application, which was granted in the sum of $40,000. He will reappear in court on January 5 for sentencing.
