US Embassy to move to new digs

All offices of the United States Embassy in Kingston, excluding the USAID and Peace Corps, will be moving next week from their current locations at 2 and 16 Oxford Road to the new embassy building at 142 Old Hope Road in Liguanea.

The move will take place between December 11-15, and the embassy hopes to resume normal operations on Monday, December 18.

Certain changes which will affect consular services and visa processing will be implemented. During the week of December 11, the American Citizen Services Unit (ACS) will only be open on December 13 and 14, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. The unit will still respond to emergencies, however, and Americans requiring assistance can call 935-6000. The ACS will reopen permanently on December 18.

Effective December 8, no walk- in visa services will be provided - those seeking these services must have an appointment. All visa services will temporarily be suspended at noon on December 8, with limited services resuming on December 13. Available non-immigrant visa appointments will be posted online at kingston. usembassy.gov.

Limited visas

Individuals requesting emergency non-immigrant visa services should follow the online instructions, but know that only a limited number of emergency appointments will be available before normal visa services resume on December 16. Information relating to pending immigrant visas will also be available on the website.

All visa applicants and U.S. citizens will have to enter the new embassy building through a consular entrance on Old Hope Road. Visitors will have to undergo a security check and electronic items, including cellphones, beepers and pagers, will not be allowed on the compound.
