The Editor: Sir,
Ever since the '90s, I knew Buju Banton was an extraordinary
talent. His unprecedented level of consistency and lyrical genius have led me to confidently
conclude that Mark Myrie, aka Buju Banton, or Gargamel is easily and by far vastly superior to all DJs.
This undisputed fact was brought to the force in no dubious manner with the recent release of a single called Driver.
In a masterful display, Buju did the legendary Taxi rhythm proud with his Driver tune. With well-organised lyrics (even from the intro), and intelligence mixed with humour, Banton tells the story of a trafficking operation in which he cautions his driver to be careful and adhere to the road code. Oh yes, the message being
conveyed whether directly or indirectly is certainly negative. However, I am highlighting the musical greatness of the man.
Soon after Buju's smash hit was released, the lumpenproletariat, with its usual parasitic
tendencies is trying to feed off the creative efforts of the Gargamel with an ear ache of a version.
Their days are certainly numbered though, as informed sources have told me that the Banton is adamant about resuming control of the DJ segment of the business. Seems like those lumpenproletariat will have to eat a food elsewhere.
I am, etc.,
