Former dancehall queen, Carlene Smith, is hopping mad at the police for what she describes as a "conspiracy" against her husband-to-be, Danhai Williams.
"Something is behind this and I need to know why they are trying to defame such a good man ... I have my suspicions, but the lawyer says that we must let the police do their investigations before I speak on that," said Smith.
Williams was detained on Tuesday at approximately 7 p.m., just days after three other men said to be area leaders in east Kingston were taken into custody. The other men are Anthony 'Tego' Brown, George Flash, and a man only known as 'Mandez.'
Carlene, who is also the co-host of the television programme 'Our Voices' (which airs on CVM TV), spent the entire day yesterday sweltering in the blazing sun at the gates of the Horizon Remand Centre, in a futile attempt to get her fiance his daily meal.
DANHAI STARVED?
"How can they put a man who lives to uplift Jamaica, into a place like that ... he hasn't even eaten since yesterday. He is very hungry and because he is a vegetarian, dem a seh him fi nyam wa him get or nuh nyam nutten," said a clearly frustrated Carlene.
The devoted fiancée had prepared a healthy home-cooked vegetarian meal for Danhai yesterday, but was shocked upon being told that she could not appease the hunger of her man.
"He is detained for questioning on something that he is clearly innocent for, so why put a decent, honourable man in a place like this where he can't even eat?
"They had me running up and down because I don't know the system, and where you wait, there is no shade ... they are trying to make him into a monster," she said.
Williams' lawyer, Valerie Neita Robertson, confirmed that her client had not eaten all day as the Horizon Remand Centre does not allow food to be carried from the outside, and had not provided Williams with any vegetarian alternative to their regular food.
His fiancée charges that Danhai was detained on an empty stomach, as police had come for him shortly before his nightly meal, while he was paying employees.
Sticking by her man
"He was in his office paying people when they came for him, and he just cooperated and left with them ... this is a man that gets his healthy, home-cooked meal 3-4 times a day regularly, what are they trying to prove?" asked an infuriated Smith.
Regardless, Carlene says that she will be sticking by her man all the way, no matter what problems may befall Williams.
"I love him, and I will be beside him all the way, they need to leave him alone because who God bless, let no man curse," she said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Mark Shields told The STAR that the men were being interviewed up to press time last night, and that the interrogations would continue into the following day (today).
"The interviews are being conducted as we speak. The interviews are being organised by ACP Denver Frater, and detectives from the area 4 division ... If there is sufficient evidence that they are linked to criminal activities in the area, charges will be levied," said DCP Shields.
