Da'Ville greets adoring fans in Japan.
Masses of screaming fans, performing from country-to-country, going to radio stations on interviews is just one day in the life of an entertainer on tour. While tour life seems like living the high life, it's a lot of work promoting oneself as an artiste.
However, life on tour is not without its funnier and more memorable experiences. A few entertainers disclose their single most memorable experience while on tour.
We all know dancehall act Elephant Man can be just a bit eccentric, always doing some daring, surprising stunts on stage. Yet, even Ele can be left speechless, as was the case when he got a call from his favourite artiste of all time. He recalls "I rememba when mi deh pon tour and I just land back into Jamaica. I get a call from Janet Jackson and mi couldn't believe it. Mi hang up di phone, and she call mi back seh she want to do a song wid me. I was so surprised. She's my favourite artiste from mi a kid. Mi spin round from di hotel back on di plane long time."
Biggest fan
While his experience was not so humorous, Da'Ville was over-whelmed while on tour in Europe. While promoting his album, one fan gave Da'Ville an unexpected shock. Da'Ville recalls the reaction of a male fan who came backstage after a show to meet and greet the crooner. "The moment him see me is like him freeze. Mi neva know how fi react, 'cause I'm a normal yute. I asked the translator how him act so, and him seh the guy seh he's my biggest fan," Da'Ville says.
The singer was gracious enough to invite the fan to relax with him when he learnt that the fan's sister had given birth earlier that day to the sound of Da'Ville's song In Heaven.
"His sister was listening to my song while she was in labour, a child came into this world hearing my voice. I can't even explain. Mi carry it wid me in my head always."
Fans are at the centre of being on tour. It's where the artiste gets to greet and perform making new fans every day. Newcomer Tami Chynn, who has not been on an official tour, but has done numerous concerts, claims that every time she makes a new fan is always a memorable experience. She says, "The more I get to perform abroad, get music to people who haven't heard my music, to make a new fan is memorable."
