Beach footballers in Costa Rica

The national beach football team left the island yesterday for Puntarenas, Costa Rica where they will participate in the inaugural CONCACAF Beach Soccer Tournament from September 13 - 17.

Jamaica will compete against Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and the U.S.A. The tournament will be played in a round-robin format with two games being played on each of the five match dates at 10:00 and 11:00 a.m. The champion and runner-up from the final round standings will progress to the 2006 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup between November 2 - 12 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The team includes goalkeepers Sheldon Brown and Elvis Hart, Damion Benjamin, Gerald Neil, Ryan Powell, Gregory Simpson, Owen Wanliss, Shawn Hunter, Barrington Planter, Derrick Planter, Andre Reid and Jermaine Richards.

The team is coached by Anthony 'Follis' Williams and he will be assisted by Danny Lynn. Head of delegation is Horace Lewis.
