The lead story in yesterday's STAR touched on an issue that has been raging for quite some time.
The story reported that a dead baby was found in a bag at the intersection of Matthews Lane and Port Royal Street in downtown Kingston on Saturday.
According to the story, a post mortem revealed that the child had died from blunt force.
People in the area were shocked about what happened and that someone could be so cruel to do that to a two-day old infant.
While the shock continues to soak in, many wonder what could have provoked such actions to cause the death of the child.
Did the guilty person knowingly beat the child to death or was it an accident? Why did the guilty party dump the body instead of going to the authorities?
The child's death is just another in the series of atrocities that people continue to commit against the children in our society. Children did not bring themselves into the world and are helpless beings who need the guidance and care to become successful, productive adults.
If parents cannot manage the care, they should seek help as there are agencies that provide the assistance to parents.
It cannot be said too often that children are the future and every child who is harmed today is one less child who will be able to experience the bright future ahead of him/her.
