Two goals from the stylish Matthew Ashman guided Real Mona's Under-17s to a 2-0 win over Harbour View while last season's beaten Under-13 finalist, Rae Town, and Real Mona played to a nail-biting 0-0 draw in action yesterday in the Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Under-13 and Under-17 leagues played at Buttercup Park in Mona.

In what was an exciting affair from the sound of the first whistle, Real Mona, who needed a win to qualify from their group to the semi-final, started the game with much aggression and saw their strategy paying off much to their delight as with just 10 minutes on the clock, Harbour View's goalkeeper Kirkland Hamilton was asked to prove himself five times.

The deadlock was broken in the 32nd minute when Ashman latched on to a pass 20 yards from goal and struck a fierce left-footed drive giving Hamilton no chance in goal.

The goal triggered the championship prowess in the Harbour View players and from then on there was an end-to-end battle for goals. But it was never to be Harbour View's day as lack of communication upfront resulted in the Stars from the East missing out on goal scoring opportunities.

In the 77th minute, the stalwart presence of Ashman was felt again. He shook off two defenders before tapping into an empty net from a corner kick.

The win now leaves Real Mona levelled with Harbour View on six points from all of their three quarter-final games and they await the result of the postponed match between Waterhouse (three points) and Tivoli Gardens (zero) to see if they both qualify for Thursday's semi-finals.

In the first match of the double-header, Real Mona survived a physical 60 minutes of football against the towering figures of the Rae Town team to see themselves through to the semi-finals of the Under-13 league as runners-up in Zone One with five points while Rae Town top the zone with seven.

Water-logged fields forced the postponements of the remaining Under-13 quarter-final games between Shortwood United and Harbour View and Cooreville Gardens and New Kingston. The games are rescheduled for today.
