The Half-Way Tree Police and the Organised Crime Unit say they will be intensifying their efforts to clamp down on vending and on the illegal sale of DVDs on the streets of Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew.
The sale of DVDs displaying pornographic material, and the prominence of such material on the streets, will also be addressed as the authorities say this is improper. The streets of the Half-Way Tree area are lined with several vendors selling DVDs with skimpily-clad, and sometimes naked women on the cover and such material is often well within the view of innocent children.
Sub-officer in charge of crime at the Half-Way Tree Police Station, Radcliffe Levy, told the STAR that the selling of pornographic material on the streets is "very much illegal." He said the public display of nudity and adult material, especially in the view of children, was not right and said the police would be stepping up their attempts to clean up the streets.
monitor areas
A recent operation conducted in the Half-Way Tree area, by the Metropolitan Parks and Market and several special constables, saw the removal of several clothing and DVD vendors from the streets. Levy also told the STAR that the police constantly monitor built-up areas and says they have seizures of illegal goods quite frequently.
