Trainer Chen on a double

BY JIMMIE, STAR Racing Writer

TRAINER DWIGHT CHEN looks set to post a two-timer on tomorrow afternoon's big Jamaica Racing Commission (JRC) Hall of Fame race meet at Caymanas Park, including MUSICAL MAESTRO in the 1200-metre feature event.

MUSICAL MAESTRO, to be partnered by Christopher Fearon, won impressively on May 6 at 1000 metres straight, slamming track record holder MI TRIAL.

The four-year-old gelding stalked FLYING TIGER and SI MI TRIAL on to the main track before storming forward under Wesley Henry a half-furlong out to win by three-quarter length.

A switch to the round course and going a furlong longer should be right up MUSICAL MAESTRO's street even though he has been slapped with topweight 57.0 kilos, giving away weight to all but NASATOL in the six-horse line-up.

MUSICAL MAESTRO has been keeping better company than his rivals and is seasoned among Open Allowance horses, finishing close to Graded Stakes top-shelf sprinter QUIET STRENGTH on no fewer than three occasions this year.

NASATOL finished eight lengths behind MUSICAL MAESTRO over the straight last time out and looks held. So too does MEDICAL REPORT, who would have preferred a milder pace to run at.

Peter McMaster's EXPLOSIVE PEAK reports pretty light and has trained well, but needs a clean break, which she hasn't had in her last two starts, to beat MUSICAL MAESTRO, who has been hob-knobbing with Stakes company.

JACKPOTS AT $1.5M

One smart punter waltzed away with $1.925 million after nailing the Super-6 on Tuesday, spotting big outsider SHALOMI KUMAR at 16-1, tricky MAMBO at 9-2 and 5-1 shot SOPHISTICATED LADY in the nightpan.

However, no Pick-9 bettor was up to the task as the combination of 21-1 long shot HIGH GOLD in the fifth race and SHALOMI KUMAR in the seventh was too much to ask of even the most astute punter, forcing the guaranteed carryover of $1 million to tomorrow's meet, adding to the Super-6 $500,000 guarantee.

Chen's three-year-old debutant in the sixth race, FABULOUS P, with veteran Ian Spence aboard, galloped with MUSICAL MAESTRO out of the straight on Monday morning, clocking 1:02.0 behind a half-mile split of 47.4.

Philip Feanny's ELECTRO SMART, who stopped the hammer at $1 million at the yearling sale, should take the bulk of the betting but looks suspect reporting on lasix the first time out and hasn't really impressed at exercise despite clocking 1:01.0 from the gate on Monday.

However, Feanny should also saddle back-to-back winners - American-bred FOUND IN THE MIST in the eighth at 1400 metres and HERECOMES-FUDGIE in the ninth at 2000 metres.

FOUND IN THE MIST was quietly fancied when debuting at 1200 metres earlier this month but was slowly away and ran an even race. She returns treated with lasix and working like a bomb, clocking 1:00.0 for five furlongs round last Monday morning.
