Maurice Maxwell may have been dead for more than six months, but residents of William Lane in Spanish Town, St. Catherine, still remember him as the boy who helped to 'buil a vibe' in the community.

Maxwell, 13, was shot dead on October 27, last year as he returned home from school. The police report that on the day in question, Maxwell was on his way home when a man walked up to him and said 'gi yuh fada dis bwoy' before shooting him in the head.

The youngster, who was called 'Bright', is so missed by his community that a mural has been painted on the inside of the concrete fence that surrounds his home.

"Him was a vibes man an' a good yute. Him full a pure vibes. If him did deh yah now a pure enjoyment we woulda have. More time him jus come as a yute 'mongst we an' whole a reason wid we bout life," said a member of the community.

"Yuh see all dem wall here weh look pretty an' nice? A him paint dem yuh nuh a dat's why we haffi do sometin' fi remember him," he added.

Residents said Maxwell was known for beautifying the yard he lived in, and also the community. They showed THE STAR a small plot of land with a variety of flowers under the mural which they said was kept in his honour.

Since Maxwell's death, residents say other patches of flowers which were maintained by him has not been as vibrant. Residents add though they were trying their best to keep the area as clean as he would have wanted it.

"Is a yute weh always a water di place so di flowers an' grass used to grow. We a try a ting fi him though," said another resident.

In fact, when THE STAR requested a picture of Maxwell, residents searched almost every home until one was found. When none could be found, they asked each passer-by for a funeral programme and did not stop until one was eventually found.

Maxwell's mother, Nadine Edwards said although he did not live with her, the teen often visited her.

"Him never left mi out at all although we never live together. Sometimes I look out expecting him to come look for me but him jus can't come an' so mi realise seh him dead. Mi really miss him," she said.
