Real name: Marlon Ricardo Williams

How did you get started in the business?

"Well it was from I was small. Louie Culture use to come to my school and deejay and that inspired me. While going school abroad, I met Dugsy Ranks and Beekle Bailey from a brethren name Patrick Lee in Miami and they introduced me to Bounty. From dem time deh me an Killa start par. When mi come back a Jamaica, mi link up back wid Louie Culture, cause mi all use to live over him yard, that's where mi get di real schooling inna di music business."

How did you get your stage name?

"My brethren bought me a chain in Miami and I wanted a pendant to match it, I got a dog and when I came back people a seh a who dat, 'Bling Dawg'? Then when mi guh ova Cactus (1998) an mi seh, 'a Ricky Rudy, aka Bling Dawg', an it mash up di place an from dat it stick."

What has been your greatest challenge in the business yet?

"To learn to deal wid other people problem and my problem at the same time."

What have you been up to lately?

"Right now mi have a crew called Tri State which consists of Bling Dawg, Wayne Marshall and Vybz Kartel and I'm doing the final touches for my debut album. Hopefully, between now and July it should be released. Bling Dawg Summer Jam will also be held on July 8 in Portland. Artistes like Bounty, Kartel, Sizzla, Marshall, Saw, Movado, Busy, Half Pint, Junior X, Louie Culture and more will be there."

Do you look up to any specific artiste?

"I look up to artistes in different ways, because Louie Culture a di one weh really mek mi waan deejay and Bounty Killa because mi did know him from before and as bad as things might be, Beenie Man, because I did my first number one with him called Circumstance. Now, at the moment a Wayne Marshall and Kartel gi mi di energy."

Are you happy with the way things are going for your musical career right now?

"Yea man, definitely cause mi a enjoy it, but wi just have some likkle grounds weh wi haffi cover like cross-over, but nothing nuh come overnight."

Anything you'd like to change about it?

"I don't really dwell on that because it done gone already, but I wish that I was smarter back then, knowledge-wise towards the music, because dem time deh mi did jus happy fi buss, but now mi even a understand di business aspect of the music."

What is your future plan?

"I'm producing as well, I produced a rhythm called the 'Pitbull' and it features artistes like Wayne Wonder, Vybz Kartel, Wayne Marshall, Sizzla, Busy Signal, TOK, Left Side and Esco, Ward 21, Macka Diamond, Voice Mail, just to name a few."

Do you have any advice for young artistes coming up?

"Just keep a focus and work hard an remember the Almighty in everything and bring a business-head in the music."
