A NEW CHAMPION will be crowned in this year's Senator Arthur Williams-sponsored Portmore U-15 Football League after Wanderers FC knocked out two-time defending champions Greater Portmore 1-0 at the Greater Portmore playfield last Sunday.

Jason Watson scored the all-important goal in the 30th-minute a ferocious free kick from 25 meters that rocketed past Ishmali Creary inside the Greater Portmore goal.

Wanderers, who tops Zone A with 16 points, joins already qualified Naggo Head in the semi-finals, and will face Southborough, who squeezed into the semis with a 3-2 win over Hellshire, the last goal scored 30 seconds from the final whistle. That game is slated for 1:00 p.m. at the Passage Fort playfield.

Naggo Head who romped to a 3-1 victory over Cumberland through goals from Allan Sylvester, Omar Thompson and Jevaughn Lewin last Sunday to waltz into the semifinals with maximum 18 points, will have an exciting clash with Hamilton Gardens in the next semi-final at 3:00 p.m. at the venue.

Hamilton Gardens confirmed their spot by hammering out-of-contention Daytona 5-0 with five different players scoring. Marvin Morrison netted his sixth goal of the season, while Dane McKenzie, Charles Thelwell, Hauncy Campbell and Oshane Hamilton also scored.

Almost level

During last Sunday's feature game, Wanderers took the attack to Greater Portmore, winning the early exchanges. But a late burst by Greater Portmore saw them almost leveling the match.

In the 60th minute Jevoy Hamilton sprinted with the ball into the box and was brought down by a wanderers defender forcing referee Patrick Findlay to point to the spot. Shev Brown stepped to the plate and kicked wide of the mark leaving his teammates in shock.

Greater Portmore almost equalized about 10 minutes later when David Nncheta drove a powerhouse at goal, but Wanderers goalkeeper was equal to the task with arms outstretched parrying the ball brilliantly for a corner.

In a game of academic interest Westchester defeated Clifton FC 6-1, while the game between Braeton FC and Caymanas Gardens was not played, as the 'Gardens' team did not turn up.
