Assaulted teen rejects mediation

BY TASHIEKA MAIR, Star Writer

WESTERN BUREAU

A 16-YEAR-old girl who was allegedly physically assaulted by her boyfriend, told Resident Magistrate Winsome Henry on Monday in the Montego Bay RM Court that she was not interested in going to mediation.

The accused is 30-year old Dalton Nesbeth from St James. He pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding and larceny.

The allegations outlined by the court are that about 3 p.m. on August 27, the teen visited Nesbeth's home to return a necklace she had borrowed from him. She said he asked her to stay with him, but she refused saying she had to meet a friend downtown.

When she got downtown it is alleged that she saw Nesbeth alight from a taxi less than a minute after she came out of the taxi she was in. She ran into a Juici Patty shop and he ran in behind her. He caught up with her and took her purse.

The court was told that when she tried to run out of the shop he shoved her into the glass door. She ran outside where he allegedly slammed her against a car breaking off the side mirror. She received injuries during the assault.

In court Nesbeth's attorney, Jacqueline Minto told the RM that since the two were in a relationship they should at least consider mediation. However the teen said she was not interested. She said she wanted the case to be tried in court. They are to return to court on October 20.
