Three times as precious

hugh stone - The Sloley triplets.

By LEIGHTON WILLIAMS, Staff Reporter

WHEN THE WORDS, Platinum, Crystal and Diamond are mentioned we often think of expensive stones and precious metals. But, in this case these words are names of a female triplet.

Platinum, Crystal and Diamond Sloley live in Southboro, Portmore, St. Catherine. Platinum is the eldest being a minute older than Crystal and two minutes older than Diamond. Family members say their weights at birth varied between 11/4 lb and 13/4 lb.

Reasons for names

The five-year-olds were born in New York on December 17, 1999. Their grandmother Lyndiana Sloley said she was unsure of the reason behind the naming of the children. "Their mother just felt like giving them those names rather than regular names. I'm not sure why she gave them those names," she said.

The triplets are described as being adorable but talkative by their grandmother who told THE WEEKEND STAR about some of their schemes which have backfired. "When they want something they sweet you up and are friendly with you just to get it but as soon as they do it, is back to normal," said Mrs. Sloley.

She added that the girls were sisters to the very end as they always stick together in times of trouble. "If one does something and you ask who is who they point on each other. They won't tell on each other. The only time they do that now is when you get the belt," said Mrs. Sloley.

When THE WEEKEND STAR visited the home, they spent most of their time running around and playing. But, midway the interview, Diamond asked what was happening. She seemed satisfied with the response and placed her head in this reporter's lap.

Platinum and Crystal continued playing and only slowed down when their photos were being taken. "Diamond is friendly. She doesn't have to know you to come and talk with you or play with you. The other two though are not like that. Sometimes they are talkative and at other times they are moody," she said.

Platinum described herself as the mother of the triplets and busily tried to get her sisters still while the photograph was being taken. Mrs. Sloley said it was a challenge raising the girls, who attend Holy Spirit Basic School in Portmore, but said it is an enjoyable experience.
